Oftentimes, you don't realize you're in a bad relationship. You think if you just try harder, then your partner will be kinder to you, that the violence will stop, if you could just figure out his (many times changing) wishes, if you could just 'fix' the problem. There is a saying: you can't change anyone but yourself. Putting the oxygen mask on yourself will help you breathe clearly and focus on wise decision making.
